Working in the creative industry for Rolling Stone Magazine and J.Crew Group, Inc., I was inspired by imagery that captured not just the subject but their essence, suspended in a moment in time. At J.Crew they often referred to this as the "moment in between the moment." It was the difference between a photograph that looked staged and one that felt real. After leaving my career in creative operations to raise our 4 children, I longed for a creative outlet.
As my children began to grow, I started to photograph their games whenever I could. Being on the sidelines with their teams, I gained visiblilty to their authentic selves. They were uninhibited, confident and happy. Parents enjoyed getting a glimpse into their child's emotional experience. Athletes loved images that showcased their ability and enhanced a positive image of themselves. I truly found my calling.
I like to think of my work as a photojournalistic study of emotion in motion, capturing all the feels of each game I photograph. It's not only about documenting the best athlete(s), it's about capturing the best of each individual while telling a story. The result is not just a photograph, but a moment you can feel long after it has passed.
